GNU Radio is an open-source software toolkit for building software-defined radios and general signal-processing systems. Developed by the GNU Radio folks, it offers a rich library of reusable signal-processing blocks and a flowgraph-based development model. With the GNU Radio Companion graphical interface, you can drag and drop blocks to prototype transmitters, receivers, and analysis pipelines, then export them as Python or C++ applications. GNU Radio integrates with popular RF hardware such as USRP, RTL-SDR, HackRF, and others via drivers like UHD and gr-osmosdr, and it supports both real-time streaming and offline processing from files or networks. Common uses include education, research, rapid prototyping, spectrum monitoring, satellite and IoT links, and radio astronomy. The platform is highly extensible through out-of-tree modules, runs on Linux, macOS, and Windows, and is released under the GNU General Public License.
